Update about our Market Life in Hobart on Saturday November 12 2020

Tasmania's Own Market ( the small version of Salamanca Market) Come down to Salamanca Pl on a Saturday and experience a leisurely market without the crowds but still with the quality products!

We attend every second Saturday at Salamanca Place, having been part of this local interim market, since it began back in August. Currently, our new site location is #211, near the Montpelier Retreat entrance. This stall site is very large, allowing us to display more beautiful and interesting specimens from the earth. Cut and polished specimens, crystals and Tasmanian stone jewellery, including Buttongrass Jade from the West Coast of Tasmania. Our shop at Lune River is open most days, though we suggest that you ring to confirm before you head south.

Springtime market at Salamanca September 22 2020

Hello from The Lune......we wanted to let you know that we're still participating in the on-going Tasmania's Own Market, which is like a mini Salamanca market. Currently we are attending on a fortnightly basis....and will be at Site 172 (city-end entrance),starting this Saturday the 26th of September. We have the same range and diversity of minerals, gems and fossils as always, and are pleased to be back in market swing. It's a great time to visit, not only because Spring has arrived, but people are commenting that they appreciate the lack of really big crowds...makes it very relaxing to wander. So, whether you're looking for a beautiful tumbled stone, a Tasmanian Buttongrass Jade necklace.....or a fish fossil, they'll be on our table this Saturday.         Chrystine and Boris

A new market for Tasmanians August 12 2020

Hello again, well a new market is being trialled at Salamanca Place each Saturday, called "Tassie's Own Market" - a condensed version of Salamanca Market. We'll be there this Saturday 15th Aug. and then each fortnight. Our stall will be next to the entrance to the market at Montpelier St (city-end). We'll have nearly everything we usually have, including Tasmanian mineral specimens and fossils, jewellery made from Tasmanian stone, and a wide range of overseas specimens. It would be great to see some familiar faces there, and to help the market continue.

A season's change April 27 2020

Autumn moves across the land, feeling more wintery than usual. Outside, the red of a Japanese maple, is matched by the reds of some new bracelets, made from an interesting blend of Australian jasper and pyrite (Western Australia). We have been adding new items and specimens to our website over the past month, with some lapidary slices to be listed soon. Our jewellery range is far more extensive than currently shown on our website. If you have a specific mineral,  rock, or piece of jewellery that you're looking for, especially Tasmanian, then always feel free to contact us and enquire.

ZEEHAN GEM & MINERAL FAIR - WEST COAST EVENT October 31 2019

Well November has swung around again, and the Zeehan Gem & Mineral Fair is happening soon (November 9th & 10th). Though the organisers of the event have changed, the stadium will again host many traders, displaying all their beautiful minerals, crystals, fossils.  Plus interesting geological, fossicking and mining information. Local collectors offer specimens that they found or mined from the wider region, alongside the 'earthen wares' of other dealers and lapidary folk....including some from interstate. There is always a variety of natural and crafted items -polished, carved, jewellery, or simply minerals and stones in their natural form.  Items range from fine, top-end specimens for sale, to many choices for the beginner collector. It is a very interesting world....one of beauty, form and function!

(November 9th - 9am -4pm  & 10th 9am. - 3pm.)

SOME NEW MINERALS FROM CHINA June 27 2019

Last month, Boris went to China, to attend the China Internationational Mineral and Gem Show in Chenzhou, Hunan Province. This was the 7th show he's gone to see, and his selections from the five day event are now with us at Lune River. The variety of minerals includes a fine twin-bladed azurite cluster, hematite quartz with chalcopyrite, a marcasite on calcite, blue fluorite with chalcopyrite, a small but handsome pyromorphite spray of crystals and a number of variations on the quartz theme. Amongst the polished pieces he brought home, there are some richly-coloured, sizeable lapis freeforms, richly-patterned spheres and freeform agate (for which China is famous), golden rutilated quartz as drilled, shaped pendant, plus a classic botroidal plate of malachite. For cassiterite enthusiasts, there is a fine twinned specimen, from Xuebaoding, Sichuan Province.

So, new colour and crystals to see........some will go to Salamanca market on Saturdays, whilst some will remain here at our showroom at Lune River. If you would like to find out more about the new stock of minerals, please contact us via our e-mail address or phone/text 0447001601.

BUTTONGRASS JADE® JEWELLERY from TASMANIA December 06 2018

We'd like to let you know that we once again have beads made from Buttongrass Jade ® from Western Tasmania. This latest batch has a rich variety of colours, including honey-tones, browns and greens, and look beautiful made up into necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Our beadcraft friend Karin Boyle from Southport, is the creative person who makes them for us (as well as our Stichtite in Serpentine range of jewellery) and are currently available at our showroom at Lune River, at our stall at Salamanca Market and our online shop. We are very pleased to extend our jewellery range again, beyond our choice of earrings (with sterling silver or gold). We hope to have some pendants and rings of Buttomgrass ® jade, set very simply in sterling silver very soon.

The next and last? Zeehan Gem & Mineral Fair 2018 October 24 2018

The 2018 Zeehan Gem & Mineral Fair is to be held again on the 10th & 11th of November, at the Primary School's sports stadium. Over fifteen years it has been run by a small and dedicated committee and a number of volunteers, and it has steadily grown to be a significant show in the Tasmanian calendar, for people interested in the world of minerals and fossils, in fossicking and lapidary work.

We have attended this show since it began, and are saddened to hear that this will be its final year (unless a new group of people take up the task and take over from the current committee). It has been our pleasure to join in the event, as we have often combined the trip west, with a few days of our own fossicking, which is always a form of R&R for us. The often wild west coastline, is wonderful to see.

The weekend event has always featured a wonderful fireworks display on the Saturday night on the sports oval, and the Fair always tried to provide for the local families, especially with free rides and other entertainment for children. We have appreciated the efforts of the committee in organising this annual event, both personally and for our business. The west coast has had a long history of mining, and a show of this sort is right for the region.

We invite all those with an interest, to attend this final Zeehan Gem & Mineral Fair. Our stall will be there,as usual, with minerals, Tasmanian stone jewellery, fossils, gems and facetted stones.

ANNUAL HOBART GEM, MINERAL & FOSSIL SHOW 2018 March 14 2018

Hello there, I thought I'd quickly insert a late notice regarding the annual event in Hobart, where people with an interest in minerals and fossils gather, to share stories and the rocky 'wares". The event is on this coming weekend (17th & 18th March) at the Grandstand Hall in the Hobart Showgrounds. Sat - 9-5pm and Sund. - 9- 4pm. There is an admission fee of $5 for adults/Children $1.

It is a great time to come and see not only Tasmanian minerals, but world-wide specimens too, including a healthy component of jewellery. There will be information regarding the various clubs in Tasmania and a number of stall-holders are from interstate, many of whom, collect their own specimens.

It's always a good opportunity to see such interesting and beautiful crystals, fossils and rock.......this show will be followed by a show in Devonport, on the next weekend. Details available at this weekends event.

We hope if you live in Tasmania, or are visiting the state, that you come and see the beautiful specimens on display, with much for sale
